Mean Green Suffers Homecoming Loss, 24-19

The Mean Green (2-8, 2-4) lost its fifth-straight game and is now tied in the series record with the Indians, 11-11. Louisiana-Monroe (5-5, 5-1) clinched a share of the Sun Belt title with the victory.
The Indians jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and despite comeback efforts by the Mean Green, was able to stay ahead for the win. Down 24-19 in the fourth quarter,
Jyles was 16-of-33 in the game for 218 yards, including two touchdowns. He also rushed for a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, extending UL-Monroe’s lead to 24-13.
Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Jackson finished the game with a career-high 113 yards on eight catches.
Louisiana-Monroe had the first big play of the game when Jyles completed a 53-yard pass to Marty Humphrey at the end of the first quarter. Jyles finished the 11-play drive with an eight-yard pass to Joe Merritt in the endzone to put the Indians ahead, 7-0.
Jyles had another long pass in the second quarter, connecting with Drouzen Quillen for a 39-yard scoring strike to extend the Indians lead to 14-0.

The Indians were able to drive down the field in the final minutes of the first half and add three more points to their score, 17-13, with a 33-yard field goal.
The Mean Green and the Indians exchanged punts in the third quarter before Jyles and UL-Monroe found the endzone with 12:13 left in the game.
The Mean Green finishes the 2005 season on Nov. 26 when it plays
