DENTON (12/9/05) - Mean Green student-athletes will be ringing the red kettle this weekend to raise money for the holiday season.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, student-athletes will be joining with the Salvation Army to participate in the Kettle Ringing at Golden Triangle Mall in Denton. Athletes from the volleyball, softball, track & field, cross-country, golf and soccer teams will be working in shifts from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday.

Last February, North Texas student-athletes were named “Christmas Volunteers of the Year” by the Salvation Army of Denton County for their community service during the holiday season. Mean Green student-athletes volunteered more than 200 hours of their time with the Salvation Army Red Kettles and Angel Trees to assist others during the holiday season. More than 40 student-athletes took an active role last December in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettles Drive. The North Texas student-athletes raised $1,160.50 to help families last Christmas.
