Mean Green Football Uses Teamwork To Aid Hurricane Relief

DENTON (9/03/05) - The North Texas football team got in some extra conditioning after its morning practice, loading supplies to sent to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The Mean Green players formed a human conveyor belt and loaded an entire moving van full of donations that will be given to the American Red Cross.

North Texas athletes, coaches and administrators volunteered their time all week to help those displaced by the hurricane. Volunteers have collected money, clothing and non-perishables on campus and throughout the streets of Denton.

So far, through the generosity of the people of Denton, the Mean Green have raised close to $10,000 and a truckload of supplies to send to the hurricane relief effort.

The North Texas football team was originally slated to play Louisiana State in Baton Rouge on Sept. 3, but the game was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
