It’s part two of our look at the North Texas football schedule of non-conference opponents. We left off in the year 2014 when the rivalry between North Texas and SMU resumes and continues for 10 straight years through 2024.
Our waiting policy is in effect again and without further delay here’s the Mean Green’s non-conference football schedule through 2018.
2010 2011 2012 2013
at Clemson at Tennessee at LSU at Georgia
vs. Rice at Alabama at Kansas State at Ohio
at Army at Tulsa vs. Ball State
vs. Kansas State
2014 2015 2016 2017
vs. SMU vs. Tulsa vs. SMU at SMU
at Tulsa at SMU at Florida at Iowa
at Iowa at Army vs. Army
2018
vs. SMU
at Army
at Arkansas
Okay three things that jump out. First is a trivia question I’ll ask. When North Texas plays at Iowa in 2015, it will be the first time that the Mean Green has played a Big 10 opponent since when?
The answer comes later. The second item that gets my attention is a trip to Florida in 2016. It’s only the second ever meeting between the two schools but who can forget that 1947 20-12 North Texas over the Gators! Should be fun if nothing else.
The last one is the resumption of the SMU series in 2014 and going at least through 2024. 10 straight years of SMU and North Texas in Dallas and Denton is a great feather in the cap for Rick Villarreal and the athletic department.
As for the rest of the schedule, getting Tulsa back on it in 2014 and 2015 is a very smart move, especially when pieced together with SMU.
The one year I can already hear people worried about is 2011. Yes that’s the year in terms of North Texas football and the new stadium opening and you see three road games staring at you. Right now I agree, it’s not good at the moment.
But just remember the calendar says 2009 and while that’s not a lot of time until 2011 is here, the schedule is always fluid so don’t lose too much sleep over it.
Give up on trivia yet? The answer, never. I couldn’t believe it either but the North Texas game vs. Iowa will be the first time in history the Mean Green has faced a school from the Big 10/11.
Make sure to stop by the live chat with Rick and ask him about the schedule yourself and if you can't make it the chat will be available to read throughout the day.
