DENTON — The UNT swimming and diving program has hired a new assistant coach, as Nick Wertz has joined the program after serving as the head men's and women's coach at Malone University, head coach Brittany Roth announced on Wednesday.
Wertz spent four years leading the men's and women's programs at his alma mater, which is an NCAA Division II university in Canton, Ohio.
In his time at the helm, Wertz developed and coached athletes to more than 100 Top-10 performances and three new program records.
"I'm thrilled to have Nick join our team," Roth said. "Nick brings with him not only a lot of insight and experience in coaching, but his delivery stands out in his care and professionalism. Our student-athletes are lucky to get to work with and learn from Nick, and I'm eager to see the continued growth and progress of the team."
As a student-athlete, Wertz excelled in distance events and was a 11-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference medalist, including one gold in the 1,650 Freestyle and he's the program record holder in the 1,650 Freestyle, 1,000 Freestyle and the 100 IM.
