ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNT swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meets in New Mexico over the weekend, as the Mean Green beat New Mexico, 126-117, on Saturday a day after falling at New Mexico State, 133-110 on Friday.
Against the Lobos, UNT was led by sophomore Vivian Anderson, who won the 100 backstroke and was the lead leg on winning teams in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay, while junior Amelia Sharp won both diving events while earning her NCAA Zone Cut in the 1-meter springboard. Anika Wright, Ella Shepherd, Scarlett McCloud and Maria Jose Sanchez Castro all won events and also had runner-up showings.
Against the Aggies on Friday, Jette Schindler, Wright, Sanchez Castro and Anderson all won in two events, whether in individual events or relays. In the diving events, Sharp had a pair of runner-up finishes, and senior Ashley Van Milligan won the 1-meter springboard.
"I'm really pleased with what we saw from our team members over the course of the two days," head coach Brittany Roth said. "This weekend allowed our athletes an opportunity to compete in the whole range of events, giving our athletes a baseline to build from as we look to our next opportunities to compete. This weekend was a pure all-in performance from our team, and the grit and determination they showed will certainly help carry them through the season."
The team will be back in competition on Oct. 30-31, in the Houston Invite.
