Green Gang: Breaking Down The Soccer Schedule
7/23/2009 12:00:00 AM | Return to Play
By Kenny Bybee, July 23, 2009, 1:37 p.m.
While everyone is anticipating the start of the 2009 football season, fans must not forget that there will be one heck of a fútbol team across I-35. Head coach John Hedlund and his squad is primed for another great run and will be seeking their seventh straight 15-plus win season.
One quick change to the 2009 schedule, the NCAA has changed the original season-opener against TCU to an exhibition game. Also, the annual alumni game will take place Aug. 22 at 6 p.m., meaning the Aug. 28 game against Sam Houston State (my alum by the way) will be the official season-opener.
This season will pose a great challenge for the Mean Green as they take on a completely opposite schedule from last year.
In 2009 North Texas will play seven out of 11 conference games on the road, including five straight to end the regular season with trips to UALR, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky and Denver. Last season the Mean Green played nine of their final 11 games at home, including hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament where they were upset by Western Kentucky.

Since this is my debut blog I would like to just tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Sam Houston State in the spring of 2008 and spent the past year as an intern with North Texas as the sports information director for soccer, cross country and track.
With a year under my belt I’m looking forward to the upcoming sports year and all the new aspects we will be giving you on our web site. Be sure to check back here daily because the best is yet to come.
