He is perhaps the highest rated recruit to sign with North Texas in football but wide receiver William Cole knows all about expectations. And why wouldn't he. Cole is just the second cousin of Mean Joe Greene. Yep, football is in his blood and so is green. MeanGreenSports.com had a chance to sit down with Cole for a Q & A with the newest addition to the Mean Green.
Why did you leave OSU
"I wouldn't say I left OSU because of anything that happened I just needed a change of scenery. There was a lot stuff that was said but none of it was true. I loved my time there and all of the coaches up there but I just wanted a change"
After OSU
"After I left OSU, I did a lot of talking with my family and thinking about what I wanted to do. I talked with my mom, my high school coaches to see what would be the best fit for me. The more I was talking to Coach McGuire (Cedar Hill HS) the more he spoke of Coach Dodge and how much he trusted him."
On knowing Dodge in HS
"I knew a lot of about Coach Dodge when I was in high school. If you played high school football you knew about Coach Dodge, he's all about winning and the tradition that he built is amazing. He's the kind of coach that would want to play for because he's all about winning."
On the Injury
"After I tore my ACL before the 2008 season I really became depressed and got homesick. It was really tough because I couldn't play and really just wanted to go home."
On the year off and rehabbing
"It's a real blessing to have a year off to be able to get my strength back because at OSU I didn't do as much rehab as I needed to. My knee is fine but I need to get the muscles and the strength back to where I know it can be."
On the wildcat possibilities
"Hahahaha, I was a QB in high school but I will do whatever the coaches ask me to do. I just want to play football so if they needed a quarterback, which I don't think they need, I'd play it. If they need me to play at WR, I'd play it. I'm going to do whatever they need me to do."
What positions he has played before
"In high school I was a QB my freshman year, then a running back, then a wide receiver, and then a quarterback my senior year again. When I first got to Oklahoma State they moved me to cornerback but then during my freshman year I was back at wide receiver. I really feel comfortable at the wide receiver position and think that's where I can have the most impact."
Why did you choose North Texas
"After doing a lot of talking with my family and my high school coaches coming to North Texas just seemed like destiny almost. With what they have been through the last few years and my own situation, it just kind of mirrored each other. I know we can change things and turn North Texas around and a few years after we have we can just sit back and laugh about how everything used to be and just smile."
