Golf season is technically from September thru November, and they pick it up again in February and play to hopefully June. However for collegiate golfers, it lasts the entire calendar year, or its suppose to. Kelsey Kipp and Katie Paxton spent their holidays on the links and Kipp is bringing home another title.
Kipp won the 2010 Hardees Collegiate Holiday Classic at Perdido Bay Golf Course in Florida yesterday. She won it with a 221, and defeated 13 other golfers, including Kelly Drack of Denver by two strokes. Kipp beat a field that included four players from Ole Miss, Drack of Denver, one from UCF, and a player from Troy.
That would be the same Denver team that has won I believe 78 straight Sun Belt Conference titles, or something close to that.
Head coach Jeff Mitchell sums it up pretty nicely about the dedication it requires to play in tournaments like these during the holiday season.
"I am really proud of Kelsey and Katie, to take the initiative to play during the break is testament to their dedication and future goals and for Kelsey to win is great," said Mitchell.
Paxton had a good three rounds to finish in sixth place at the tournament. Kipp and Paxton are two of the key players for a North Texas team that without question had the best fall season in school history, winning three tournaments.
While most of us are putting on extra pounds during the holiday's, Kipp's trophy case is the only thing that will need some extra room after the break.
