Soccer Beats Missouri State, 2-1

DENTON, Texas - The North Texas soccer team defeated Missouri State, 2-1 on Sunday at the North Texas Soccer Field. The win improves the Mean Green to 2-0 on the season.
Missouri State started the scoring with a goal from Brooke Williams in the games second minute on an assist from Rachel Weimer.
The Mean Green fired back with a goal from sophomore Michelle Young on an assist from sophomore Ellen Scarfone in the 16th minute. The goal was Young's first of the season and the 10th of her career, putting her within one of tying junior Kelsey Perlman for the team's active lead in career goals scored.
Each team converted its only shot on goal in the first half. North Texas led the overall shot total at the break, 5-2.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair until junior Julie Lackey scored her third goal of the young season in the 76th minute. She was again assisted by Scarfone, whose two assists give her four on the season.
Continuing a trend from Friday night, the Mean Green dominated possession and the shot totals. North Texas outshot Missouri State 12-3, giving the Mean Green a 49-5 shot advantage so far this season.
The win was North Texas' sixth straight at North Texas Soccer Field, and moves the team to 83-7-2 at home since 2000.
The Mean Green are back in action on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Hotel Encato Aggie Classic in Las Cruces, N.M., where they will square off with Prairie View A&M.
