It was the first day of spring football practice last night. Nothing much happened in shorts and no pads for the guys. It was interesting to see the new approach in terms of the coaches and how practices are run. Very high intensity and almost zero down time.
A few players made their returns from injuries, notably QB Derek Thompson, DaWaylon Cook, and Chris Bynes to name just a few. Thompson looks sleaker and quicker. Newcomer Brent Osborn has a little more size and an amazingly quick release.
Best grab of the night came from walk-on Matthew Lux. On a deep ball from Osborn he juggled it at first, but double clutched and brought it down in the end zone. There wasn't any hitting, or there wasn't supposed to be, but full contact won't happen until Saturday.
We had a chance to catch up with veteran cornerback Royce Hill and get his thoughts on the first day and his new position coach Justin Gaines.
