No. 35 - Galbreath Seals NO Bowl Win With 35-Yard Scamper
Kevin Galbreath had dominated Sun Belt competition all season, but Dec. 17, 2002 would be his finest day. The Mean Green workhorse had bigger rushing totals during his eight-game run of 100-plus yard outings that season, but pounding Cincinnati for 130 yards en route to New Orleans Bowl MVP honors put the icing on a Hall of Fame career.
His crowning moment came on the first drive of the third quarter. Even though 28 minutes technically remained in the game, Galbreath effectively ended things with a 35-yard scramble that put NT on top 24-7.
The Mean Green defense, stacked with players like Brandon Kennedy, Cody Spencer, Chris Hurd and Don McGee, made sure the 17-point cushion stood up by snagging five interceptions, and punter Brad Kadlubar nailed five of his seven punts inside the Bearcat 20.
That Mean Green performance that day snapped a 56-year bowl victory drought, and it came against the Conference USA champion on national television.
