NEXT GAME: North Texas begins its final season in the Sun Belt Conference when it opens league play against the Troy Trojans on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Apogee Stadium in Denton.
North Texas held Kansas State to three-and-out on the Wildcats first two possessions. In the season-opener against LSU the Mean Green only forced two three-and-out series all game.
North Texas took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown run by junior wide receiver Brelan Chancellor. It was Chancellor's third touchdown of the year and the first rushing touchdown of his career.
North Texas allowed Kansas State a kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter. That makes the third straight year that North Texas has allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Derek Thompson was sacked for the first time this season when Kansas State dropped him for an 11-yard loss in the second quarter. The Mean Green offensive line had not allowed a sack in the first two games.
Wide receiver Ivan Delgado had five receptions in the first quarter, which is two more than he had in the first two games combined.
North Texas held Kansas State to -1 yards in total offense in the first quarter. The Wildcats were had just six offensive plays in the first quarter compared to 21 plays for North Texas in the quarter.
North Texas outgained Kansas State 174-142 in total offense in the first half. Last season the Mean Green was 4-1 when out-gaining its opponent in total offense.
North Texas had 94 rushing yards at halftime against Kansas State, which is one yard shy of the most yards the Wildcats have allowed in a game this year. Kansas State only gave up 95 against Missouri State and held Miami to just 40.
Ivan Delgado had a career-high 10 pass receptions for 86 yards. His previous career high was nine receptions.
Chancellor got his fourth touchdown of the season on a 19-yard fourth-quarter reception from Thompson.
