DENTON - The North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, April 18, is almost sold out. No tables remain and only a handful of individual seats are available.
The banquet, honoring the induction of five new members of the Hall of Fame, takes place in the HUB Club of Apogee Stadium. The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m., and will be followed by the annual Green-White spring football game at 2 p.m. Admission to the banquet is $20 for individual seats. Those buying tickets to the banquet can watch the spring game from the club level.
The banquet, sponsored by Meridian Bank of Texas, will feature the induction of:
- Leonard Dunlap (football), a member of the North Texas All-Century football team and the last player from NT to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft;
- Walter "Weasel" Johnson (men's basketball), a sensational point guard during the Bill Blakely era;
- Judy Nelson (women's basketball), who coached the Mean Green to the school's first berth in the NCAA Tournament and the program's first 20-win season;
- Willie Parker (football), also a member of the All-Century team who went on to play 11 years in the NFL; and
- George Dunham (Fred McCain Award winner), the recently-retired play-by-play man for North Texas athletics on the Mean Green Radio Network.
