As a true freshman, Thomas led the NCAA in rushing with an average of 180.1 yards per game and still holds the North Texas and Sun Belt Conference record for 1,801 rushing yards in a season.
Thomas averaged 6.3 yards per carry and totaled 17 touchdowns to lead North Texas to a conference championship and an appearance in the New Orleans Bowl. In his first career start, Thomas rushed for 247 yards against Colorado. He also rushed for over 250 yards in three games that season.
