Cobbs broke every North Texas rushing record in 2003, carrying the ball 307 times for 1,680 yards and 19 touchdowns. He led the nation in rushing, with an average of 152.7 yards per game and in scoring with an average of 11.5 points per game.
He led the Sun Belt Conference in four statistical categories and was named the conference Offensive Player of the Year. Cobbs was an honorable mention All-America selection after leading his team to a 9-3 regular season record and a spot in the New Orleans Bowl.
In a 52-14 win over Baylor, Cobbs averaged 13.1 yards per carry; and in a 24-14 win over Idaho, he had 249 yards and three touchdowns.
