DENTON - The University of North Texas Department of Athletics announced Wednesday the hiring of Stacy Martin as Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Financial Officer. Martin will direct the strategic planning for fiscal management and business operations and serve on the leadership team of Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker.
"Stacy Martin is one of the brightest leaders and one of the finest collegiate athletics finance people in the country," Baker said. "Beyond that, she is tremendous when it comes to strategic planning and critical thinking. I worked with her at Memphis and watched her play a vital role in making the department the most efficient organization possible while improving the student-athlete experience."
Martin is currently the CFO at the American Athletic Conference, where she manages the conferences fiscal and business affairs. Martin serves as the conference liaison to the Board of Directors Audit Committee and Athletic Directors Finance Committee. At The American, she helped establish the inaugural football championship game, negotiated and managed various league contracts and business relationships while supervising the annual operating budget. Martin also serves as the CFO for the Miami Beach Bowl, a subsidiary of The American.
Prior to her time at The American, Martin served as Executive Senior Associate AD for Finance and Administration at Memphis, where she managed a $48 million budget, had oversight of internal operations, and was the department's Senior Woman Administrator. She also worked in the Kansas State and San Jose State athletics departments managing those respective budgets. A former President of the College Athletic Business Management Association, Martin is a member of the GBTA Sports, Media, and Entertainment Committee.
"Maximizing our resources is a key to building an athletics program that consistently competes for conference and national championships," Baker said. "Stacy is a huge key to accomplishing our goals, and we are fortunate to have her join our team. I am pleased to welcome her to the North Texas family."
"I am honored to join the University of North Texas Athletic Department and am extremely grateful to Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker for this opportunity," Martin said. "I look forward to working under Wren's leadership and with the Mean Green coaches and staff to build a championship-caliber program for our student-athletes."
Martin has two degrees from San Jose State University, earning her undergraduate degree in business administration in 2002 and an MBA in 2005. She was a member of the San Jose State women's gymnastics team from 1998-2002.
