MANHATTAN, Kansas - Junior Sol Lee had a strong second round Monday at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills Golf Club, firing an even-par 72 on a day that was delayed four hours by lightning in the area. The Mean Green sit in a tie for fifth after day two at 29-over par, and Lee is tied for seventh individually.
"We improved by a shot today, but some other teams made huge jumps," head coach Michael Akers said. "We hope that things will balance out and we move up to where we should finish. Sol did a nice job of improving. She is very focused and works very hard."
Lee's Monday bested any of the rounds in the tournament thus far for a Mean Green golfer, and she is now at four-over par overall. She birdied three times Monday, on 10 and went back-to-back on 17 and 18. She was very consistent on the afternoon, parring 12 holes.
Senior Nyca Khaw, who entered the day in a tie for 11th place at three-over, shot a four-over 76 Monday and is now tied for 17th. Like Lee, Khaw birdied three times, on the fifth hole, as well as back-to-back on 15 and 16. Unfortunately she triple bogeyed on the third hole, which kept her from finishing as well, if not better than she did in her first round.
The Mean Green return to action from Manhattan, Kansas, for the third and final roun Tuesday morning and tee off starting at 8 a.m. CT. Fans can follow all the action live here, courtesy of Golfstat.
