DENTON – Coming on the heels of last week's record-fundraising totals by the university (full story here), North Texas Athletics announced several fundraising and ticketing highlights Tuesday, including $1.78 million in annual unrestricted gifts to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund for the 2018 fiscal year, an increase of more than 50 percent in unrestricted giving in the last year. The Mean Green Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarship and program support for all North Texas student-athletes and its 16 NCAA Division I programs, and in the past year MGSF participation has seen a 20 percent increase, with 1,298 donors.
"Season-ticket holders and Mean Green Scholarship Fund donors are the lifeblood of the success we are enjoying, and I can't say enough about the way North Texas fans continue to answer the call in supporting our student-athletes," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "Mean Green fans have always known our strength is in our numbers, and I am humbled by the generosity UNT alumni, fans and friends have shown our program this past year. We will remain focused on building our season ticket and donor bases, and are already off to a strong start heading into 2019."
In addition to fundraising benchmarks, UNT had a record 6,792 season-ticket holders for the 2018 football season, and for only the second time in Apogee Stadium's eight-year history all private suites were sold out. The total season-ticket number represents an increase of 46 percent over last season. Two of the stadium's other premium areas also saw significant attendance hikes, with the new Touchdown Terrace selling out, and season tickets in the HUB Club increasing by nine percent compared to the 2017 season. With two regular-season home games remaining, already this year Apogee Stadium has hosted the two highest attended games in school history (30,105 against Louisiana Tech and 29,513 against SMU). Following last year's highest season-attendance mark, Mean Green fans have now been a part of five of the eight all-time highest attendance games in program history during the past two football seasons.
"Thanks to the Mean Green family, we are so fortunate to be able to share and celebrate these milestones," Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Ryan Peck said. "From record attendance at Apogee Stadium, to the two largest gifts in the history of North Texas Athletics, the last year continues to show the pride and passion UNT fans have for their university. We are grateful to everyone who has played a role in these achievements."
Heading into the final weeks of the regular season, and with the Mean Green now bowl eligible, fans are reminded that postseason ticket priority is given to MGSF members and season-ticket holders.
