IRVING - The North Texas volleyball team tied the program-record set a year ago by placing five players on the All-Conference USA teams, the conference office announced Wednesday. Senior Karley York and Sophomore Valerie Valerian garnered first-team honors, while senior Jordyn Williams and sophomore Barbara Teakell earned second-team honors and Rhett Robinson was named to the all-freshman team.
"Excited for our team and our players," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "Karley and Val both have been some of the top players in our conference. Jordyn has worked hard to get in position to be recognized. Barb has had a really good second half of the seasons. Rhett has played consistently all season, and we expected a lot from her. I'm glad she's been recognized."
Â
York finds a spot on the first-team for the second straight season after an impressive junior campaign in 2017. The San Antonio native has posted 1,080 assists to date this season as well as a career mark of 3,563, putting her fifth all-time in program history. York ranks fourth in the conference in assists as well as assists/set with 10.09.
Â
The senior was named the tournament MVP of the North Texas Invitational back in August for averaging 12.67 assists per set as well as six block assists and a pair of aces. York was also named to the all-tournament team at the K-State Invitational as well as the North Texas Challenge.
Â
Valerian's first-team honor is the first all-conference selection of the sophomore's young career. The Sugar Land native leads the Mean Green in kills (387) which is eighth-best in the conference as well as double-doubles (11).
Â
The sophomore was named to the all-tournament team of the 2018 North Texas Invitational in August. Valerian was named C-USA's first Offensive Player of the Week following her tournament performance.
Â
Williams claims her first career all-conference selection. The senior has posted a career-best in blocks (95) as well as kills (231). The San Antonio native collected a C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor after her combined 11 blocks in matches against Western Kentucky (5) and UAB (6). Williams has also appeared in 106 sets this season, a career high.
Â
With her second-team selection, Teakell claims her second all-conference selection in as many years after being named to the all-freshman team in 2017. The Celina native was named to the North Texas Invitational all-tournament team in August. Teakell has been instrumental in the Mean Green's success as of late, appearing in 39 of 51 conference sets and posting 123 kills, with a season high of 18 against UTEP.
Â
Robinson becomes the fourth Mean Green freshman in the last five years to be named to the all-freshman team. The two-time C-USA Freshman of the Week has posted 318 kills this season, which ranks second on the team behind fellow all-conference player Valerian. The Krum native has also blocked 72 opponent attempts, tying her for second on the team.
North Texas has had 10 all-conference team honorees in the last two years.
"I'm excited about the direction of our program, and the culture our players have built over the last couple years," Palileo said.Â
