DENTON - North Texas Athletics is rolling out an updated and upgraded Apogee Stadium gameday experience for the 2018 football season.
The parking lots around Apogee Stadium that have traditionally accepted cash have been expanded and are also accepting credit cards on the day of the game. Individual-game parking can be purchased in advance until 5 p.m. the day before the game online through the North Texas ticket office or via the Parkmobile app. Search "Apogee Stadium" on Parkmobile for parking options.
The Blue Lots, located around Victory Hall, now include an additional lot next to the intramural fields on Walt Parker Road. All of the Blue Lots are still open to season-ticket holders with Blue Lot passes, but this year those lots will also be available for on-demand parking. Individual-game parking in the Blue Lot is $30 in advance or by credit card, $35 for cash on the day of the game.
The Red Lot, the grass lot across Bonnie Brae St. from Apogee, will be open to cash/credit parking. Costs are $20 in advance or credit card, $25 cash.
The Orange Lot, located around Fouts Field, is cash/credit parking at a cost of $10 in advance or credit card and $15 cash.
ADA parking remains in the northwest section of the Fouts Lot, and is available for $10 in advance or credit card and $15 cash with an ADA parking permit. The grass lot, due to its uneven surface, is not suitable for ADA patrons. A shuttle service runs between the ADA Lot and Apogee Stadium before and after home games.
For more information and a map of all Apogee gameday parking lots, visit the Gameday Parking page.
RV parking in the Blue Lot must be reserved 48 hours before each game. To reserve a spot for an RV, call the Mean Green Scholarship Fund office at 940-369-7284. RVs that do not have a reserved spot must park in the Orange Lot around Fouts Field. RV parking is not available in the Grass Lot or in the ADA Lot. RV parking costs $120 in the Blue Lot and $60 in the Orange Lot.
North Texas is introducing new premium seating located in the southwest corner of Apogee Stadium. Seats feature a 360-degree swivel chair, a shelf for holding food and drink, access to the air-conditioned HUB Club and its cash bar, and a Blue Lot parking pass. Touchdown Terrace seats are sold on a season basis only and require a per-seat contribution of $350 to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund in addition to the ticket purchase. For more information, please call 940-369-7284.
Apogee's concessions faire this year will include a few new items.
The biggest addition are two stands called The Lighter Side, located on the west side of Apogee behind section 102 and on the east side behind section 124 and featuring healthier alternatives like black-bean burgers, grilled chicken Caesar salads, Sabra hummus, spinach harvest salad and veggie dogs.
Two other items have been added to the Apogee menu: mac and cheese with brisket (available at North Texas Cantina stands) and mini corn dogs (at Victory Grill stands).
For the complete concessions menu and map of each location, visit meangreenconcessions.com. The site is geared toward use on handheld devices and so is perfect for use at the stadium.
Apogee will have four beer kiosks this year (up from three a year ago), and they will also serve wine this season. This year's beer lineup consists of Dos Equis, Heineken, Henry's Sparkling Lemon Lime, Leinenkugel's, Miller Lite, Revolver Blood & Honey, Revolver Full Tang, Revolver Long Range Pils, Shiner, Strongbow Cider, Tecate Light, and the wines offered are Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Moscato. Beer and wine sell for $6.
Like most stadiums around the nation, North Texas has implemented a clear-bag policy at Apogee. Clear bags no larger than 12x12 inches will be permitted. Complete details are available on meangreensports.com's clear-bag policy page.
The official website of Mean Green Athletics recently moved to SIDEARM Sports and underwent a complete redesign. Among the redesigned pages are the Apogee Stadium Gameday Guide, which includes maps of the stadium, parking information, and Apogee Stadium A-Z.
Among the updated and new pages:
The Hill & Student Tailgating
The reinvented student tailgating area will provide a vibrant experience before each home game. Live music, giant TVs, yard games, inflatables, free giveaways and communal space will anchor this community-driven environment. In addition, student organizations have been given reserved lots to bring the party into a central location. All sanctioned student organizations are invited to be a part of The Hill this fall. Student organizations can reserve a tailgating spot by contacting Amy Gaston at email@example.com.
New Stadium Signs
The names of past all-conference players and the members of the All-Century team are displayed on the pillars in the Apogee concourse on west side of the stadium near Gate 2, and Mean Green legends Steve Ramsey, Ray Renfro, Bill Carrico, Byron Gross, J.T. Smith and Leonard Dunlap are shown on new banners above the concession stands on the west side. Those new banners are alongside the banner honoring Joe Greene, Cedrick Hardman, Abner Haynes, Ron Shanklin and Jordan Case.
Paranoid Fan's interactive map features emojis that designate concessions and beer stands, tailgate spots, merchandise vendors and other stadium features. Accessible as a mobile app and website, fans can track their friends and send out their locations to help connect with their group.
Visit Paranoid Fan's website at map.paranoidfan.com/meangreen. The app is available from the Apple store and Google Play.
There will be a variety of giveaways at each home game, including a range of game-theme promotions. For example, September 1 will feature wrestling trading cards for fans to have autographed by the pro wrestlers who will compete after the game and color-it-yourself wrestling masks for kids. Quantities will be limited each week, so arrive early.
TuneIn Radio UNT Channel
North Texas athletics has its own station on TuneIn Radio, the live-streaming app. TuneIn offers a dedicated UNT station for live Mean Green football and men's basketball games, select women's basketball games, pre- and post-game shows, coaches' shows and archived game replays. To listen, download and open the TuneIn app (available for iOS and Android devices), then search for North Texas.
