DENTON – North Texas women's basketball secured an 82-62 win over Florida Atlantic led by a game-high 24 points from Terriell Bradley Thursday night inside The Super Pit.
With the victory, UNT (13-11, 6-6 C-USA) matched their conference win total of six from last season with four league games remaining in 2018-19. The 20-point triumph over FAU (5-20, 2-10 C-USA) is the largest Mean Green margin of victory in C-USA play this year. The 82 points, 46 rebounds, 16 assists, and 10 3-pointers by UNT are all the highest outputs versus conference opponents this season.
"We want to be playing our best basketball right now," head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "It's great when it's everybody contributing. It always feels good get to a point when it doesn't really matter who is shooting it."
The 24 points by Bradley were her highest total against league opponents and the most since she dropped 36 versus Missouri State Dec. 1. Grace Goodhart and Callie Owens each scored 11 points, while Madison Townley ripped down a game-high 11 boards.
"We moved the ball really well tonight," Bradley said. "We were being really aggressive and pushing it in transition. We are headed in the right direction."
Owens scored all of her points in a two-minute span early in the second quarter to give North Texas their first double-digit lead. The tear began with a 3-pointer 10 seconds into in the period and was followed by a steal for a full court layup to put UNT ahead, 22-15. Owens then connected on 3s from the left wing and the right side before finding Bradley on a fast break for one of her own from deep to extend the lead to 31-17 at the 7:16 mark.
North Texas lead 42-32 at halftime and opened the third quarter on an 8-2 capped by a putback by Charlene Shepherd. A Bradley drive down the right side finished the scoring in the period with the Mean Green holding a 63-45 advantage.
A layup by Velma Mitchell extended the lead to 76-55 at the 3:47 mark of the fourth quarter before Bradley gave North Texas their largest margin with a bucket a minute later at 82-60.
