MANHATTAN, Kan. – The North Texas women's golf team battled host Kansas State throughout the day in Monday's final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational but fell just shy of the tournament championship with a second-place finish.
Sophomore Patricia Sinolungan led the way over the course of the three rounds, finishing tied for fourth, while senior Lauren Cox shot an even-par 72 to pace the team on Monday and finish tied for sixth. Sophomore Audrey Tan gave the Mean Green three top-10 finishes, as she finished tied for 10th at 5-over par. Depth was a strength for the Mean Green, as their fourth scorer, sophomore Katie Finley posted a top-25 finish as she tied for 24th at 12-over.
"We certainly wanted to win at K-State," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We had our chances but some missed short putts and errant tee shots cost us in the end. This was a great learning experience, and we look forward to competing at UT in a few weeks.
"We have a very good team and will stay positive and hungry for more," Akers added.
UNT will return to action Oct. 12-13, at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin at UT Golf Club.
