DENTON – Anisha George scored 22 points and N'Yah Boyd added her sixth double-digit point output of the season as North Texas snapped a four-game losing skid with a 74-69 overtime win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon.
The Mean Green (8-10, 2-4 Conference USA) had seven players record at least one point with George and Boyd being the only two in double figures. Redshirt junior Madison Townley and junior Trena Mims both added eight points and five rebounds while sophomore Charlene Shepherd added six points and four boards off the bench.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "I think from a game management aspect we did a lot of things right. I thought we managed overtime extremely well, and I thought every possession that we were set on getting a bucket we got what we needed."
After a George layup put the Mean Green up by one with 1.7 left to play in regulation, the Lady Techsters (9-7, 1-4 Conference USA) had a shot at extending North Texas' losing streak with an 85 percent free throw shooter at the line. After a split pair of free throws, the two teams headed to an extra period knotted up at 64.
North Texas opened up the extra period on a 5-0 run to force a LA Tech timeout before the Lady Techsters came out to tie the game at 69. The Mean Green would not trail again and grew the lead to five to get the win. North Texas led the game for over 30 minutes and held a lead as large as six early in the third quarter.
The Mean Green will hit the road on Thursday as they travel to San Antonio to take on UTSA at 11 a.m.
