LUBBOCK – North Texas track and field continued its record-breaking indoor season as Haley Walker threw for the top weight throw mark in the UNT record books, and Aneesa Scott set a new Mean Green time in the 400-meter dash Friday at the Red Raider Invitational inside the Sports Performance Center.
Walker grabbed fourth place at 18.14 meters while surpassing her own mark of 17.76 set last season, and Scott added another school record to her resume in 2020 with a 53.86 showing for third place to upset the 54.49 recorded by Ciara Smith in 2011.
Ashlynn Smart took the title in the B group in the weight throw with a toss of 16.12 meters. Chris Samaniego earned runner-up honors in the B section at 16.80 meters, and Karl Sralla placed third at 15.97.
In the B group of shot put, Macayla Needham took home first at 13.09 meters, while Samaniego was second with a mark of 15.69.
"We had another impressive day of personal best performances. I'm really proud of how our team stepped up against the competition, and each week it's a different group of athletes," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said.
"This week the throwers stepped up big. We are really coming together as a team. We've done a good job at getting the team to focus on themselves and their daily preparation. Each week is a bigger challenge, and we will continue meet them with confidence," Sheffield said.
The Mean Green travel to the Houston Invitational Jan. 31.
