
Hall of Famer Armstrong Passes Away

North Texas Athletics Hall of Famer Carl Quince "Quincy" Armstrong, passed away Monday, November 2nd, just a few weeks shy of his 93rd birthday.
Quincy was born November 22nd, 1928 in Clyde, Texas, where he lived as a child then moved to Fort Worth where he graduated from R L Paschal in 1947. From there, his skills on the football field led him to become an All-America center at UNT, which led to his induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
Armstrong was a member of North Texas' 1949 team that went 8-4, the 1950 squad who were co-champions of the Gulf Coast Conference at 7-2-1 and the 1951 team that won the Gulf Coast Conference outright at 8-4. Armstrong earned first team all-conference honors in both 1950 and 1951. He earned All-Texas College and Williamson All-American status in 1951.
Following his collegiate career in Denton, Quincy married Annette Armstrong in 1954 and he continued his football career on the professional level playing in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns (in 1954) and in the Canadian Football League, where he became a Grey Cup Champion in 1953 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, whom he made 16 appearances for in two seasons (1952-53), scoring a pair of touchdowns defensively.
While continuing his career in football as a coach and administrator, Quincy and Annette welcomed three children into their home, David, Susan, and Neal.
In addition to his wife and children, Quincy is also survived by his sister: Joan Putnam. Grandchildren: Levi, Molly, Colt, Jordan, Ali, Nathan, Lindlee, Aubri, Caleb, & Hugh along with 17 great grandkids. His grandson Colt also played football for UNT from 2005-08.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at 10 a.m. at Watt's Chapel Methodist Church in Grandview, Texas.
