DALLAS – The North Texas women's golf team played a one-day, 36-hole mini tournament on Monday to kick off its spring competition schedule and placed fifth out of six teams at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Challenge.
UNT finished the two-round event at 69-over par on a day when the teams battled tough course conditions and the winner, No. 25 Baylor, finished 19 shots over par – 21 shots up on second-place No. 26 Texas Tech.
The Mean Green were led by sophomore Audrey Tan, who finished 14-over and tied for 13th, while senior Lauren Cox finished in 16th place at 15-over. Freshman Marija Jucmane, who competed as an individual, tied Tan at 14 over par.
Next up, the Mean Green will travel to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Feb. 16-18.
"The golf course today played very difficult, and we played poorly," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Good golfers have short memories. We take away what we need to improve but forget the finish and set our sights for the Sugar Bowl. We are excited to travel to New Orleans and play a former PGA Tour course and enjoy a very prestigious event."
