Mean Green Fall To Liberty, 4-2

HONOLULU — The North Texas women's tennis team lost 4-2 to the Liberty Lady Flames Tuesday afternoon in a neutral site match on the University of Hawai'i campus.
The Mean Green (7-7) continued their doubles success as they clinched the doubles point behind a strong performance from Haruka Sasaki and Sophia Hummel and then took a 2-0 lead over the Lady Flames (7-4) but couldn't build off that momentum.
"We did not take advantage of the momentum we got off of winning the doubles point," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We'll regroup and get ready for the next match. The area we need to improve is stretching leads and finishing. We have to develop our killer instinct."
After winning another doubles point, North Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 behind freshman Hala Khaled Badwy. The freshman has been outstanding for the Mean Green. On Tuesday she improved to 8-4 this year in singles matches and has now won a team-best three straight singles matches.
After taking the 2-0 lead, UNT lost at 1, 2, 4 and 6 to fall to Liberty.
A bright spot for UNT was the performance of Sasaki who filled in for an ill Kexuan Zhou. Sasaki and Hummel pulled out the victory at the the No. 3 spot of the doubles position to clinch the important doubles point. Sasaki and Hummel defeated their doubles opponent 6-3.
Tuesday was North Texas' first match in 10 days. They will regroup and play Hawai'i on Thursday.
