DENTON – North Texas head women's basketball coach Jalie Mitchell has announced the signing of Texas Tech transfer Emma Villas-Gomis to the Mean Green.
The 6-3 forward comes to Denton after playing the 2019-20 season with the Lady Raiders following two years at Salt Lake Community College. Villas-Gomis will have one year of eligibility remaining at UNT.
"It is with great pleasure that we add Emma to our 2020 signing class," Mitchell said. "She is an incredible person, always exhibiting great character, a winning attitude and all of the intangibles that make her the perfect culture fit."
At Texas Tech, the native of France appeared in 12 contests. Villas-Gomis pulled down six rebounds versus Northwestern State and four against Louisiana-Monroe.
During the 2018-19 season at Salt Lake, Villas-Gomis earned All-Region honors at the Region 18 tournament. She averaged 7.3 points and 3.5 rebounds while leading the team in blocks and was awarded several Scenic West weekly honors.
Villas-Gomis career-highs at SLCC included 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
"On the court, Emma is a long and athletic forward who will showcase many talents on her way to an impactful senior year. She will strengthen our transition game with her speed and has the ability to stretch the floor at that position with her shooting skills. Emma is very active, which will help us continue to stay strong in rebounding and defense. Our fans will not only love her determination to win, but they will enjoy getting to know her just as we have," Mitchell said.
