DENTON – Quincy Noble and N'Yah Boyd paced North Texas offensively in an 85-78 win over UTSA Friday night inside The Super Pit to move to 3-0 in Conference USA play.
Noble scored a game-high 26 points while Boyd added a season-high 21 for the Mean Green (6-2, 3-0 C-USA). Madison Townley was again strong underneath by collecting a game-high 10 rebounds. Noble knocked down six 3-pointers to tie for the fourth-highest single game performance in program history.
"We'll take the win, however ugly it was," head coach Jalie Mitchell. "The nice thing is we have the opportunity to improve tomorrow. Offensively, I thought we were okay. We had some uncharacteristic turnovers early."
North Texas held a 12-point lead with just over three minutes to play before UTSA (2-6, 0-3 UTSA) scored six straight. A 3-pointer by Noble stretched the advantage to 79-70, but the Roadrunners cut the margin to four with 1:31 remaining. A UTSA shot from deep made it a three-point game with less than a minute on the clock, but Boyd sealed the win by hitting four from the free throw line.
"We kind of slacked off towards the end," said Noble. "UTSA fought their way back, and we should have handled it better."
The Mean Green and Roadrunners clash again Saturday at 3:30 p.m. inside The Super Pit.
