DENTON — North Texas had three players finish with double figure kills, but it wasn't enough as the Mean Green fell to UTSA in four sets (14-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20) on Friday afternoon.
The loss snaps a seven game conference winning streak for the Mean Green and a five game winning streak overall. North Texas had not lost in conference action since September 26, a span of nearly a month.
"Give UTSA credit, they played hard and they played well," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "They really came out aggressive and played pretty loose. They won some long rallies that kept their momentum going, and they put a lot of pressure on us with their defense."
Rhett Robinson still managed to contribute a game high 27 kills on a .396 attack percentage, while Andrea Owens tallied 12 kills and Sarah Haeussler added 10.
Truli Levy and Alysha Johnson each posted five kills in the defeat.
Kaliegh Skopal posted 47 assists, while Aleeyah Galdeira helped lead the defensive effort with 17 digs.
The Mean Green were swinging as low as .083 in the first set before rescuing that number throughout the rest of the match, getting up to a .272 mark by the end. UTSA hit .281, while only registering 12 attack errors compared to the Mean Green's 21.
