Mean Green fall to MTSU in conference tournament

NORFOLK — North Texas' offense struggled to get going early as the team fell to Middle Tennessee in straight sets (20-25, 19-25, 22-25) in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Conference USA Tournament.
The Mean Green were led in kills by Rhett Robinson, who picked up nine in total. Andrea Owens also recorded seven while Sarah Haeussler and Truli Levy each picked up six, with Haeussler racking up a .455 attack percentage.
Kaliegh Skopal added 23 assists, getting her past the 700 mark for the season. Aleeyah Galdeira also picked up 15 digs in the loss.
The first set proved to be a tightly-contested affair. Neither team led by more than two until Middle Tennessee gained a 19-16 advantage late. The Blue Raiders used that late push to take the set 25-20, despite hitting just .116 in the frame. The Mean Green hit just .048 in the opening set.
Middle Tennessee controlled most of the second set, at one point going on a 7-0 run to create space between themselves and the Mean Green. North Texas pushed back somewhat midway through the set, but the Blue Raiders were able to close the frame out in a 25-19 victory,
North Texas jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the third set, but the advantage didn't last long. Middle Tennessee came roaring back, scoring 14 of the next 21 points to retake the lead for good. North Texas put together one final push late, but couldn't overcome the deficit, falling in the third frame 25-22 to drop the match.
