DALLAS – North Texas earned 12 spots on the 2021 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Teams that were determined at the conference meet, held February 20-21 in Birmingham. Individuals placing first in their events were named First Team All-Conference, those placing second were named Second Team All-Conference and those placing third were named Third Team All-Conference.
DALLAS - North Texas junior Audrey Tan led the way for the Mean Green women's golf team on Monday and Tuesday at the ICON Invitational, finishing in a tie for 10th place and helping her team to a strong finish. For her performance, Tan was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Thursday.
Tan, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the model of consistency for the Mean Green, who ended up setting several program records with their blistering final round that saw them move from 10th to sixth place on the leaderboard. She finished the three-round tournament with a 70-71-71-212 to finish in a tie for 10th place. Tan was tied for third in the field in Par 5 scoring at 5-under and had 11 birdies over the course of the three rounds. It is the first Golfer of the Week honor in her decorated career at North Texas.
DENTON – North Texas opens spring practice Monday morning and heading into preparation for his sixth season at the helm of the Mean Green, head coach Seth Littrell will be looking to break in several new members to his coaching staff.
UNT has made five additions to its staff, bringing in new defensive coordinator and safeties coach Phil Bennett, Jim Gush (linebackers), Jarred Holley (cornerbacks), Blake Joseph (quarterbacks) and Matt Passwaters (defensive line). In addition, Littrell has promoted Mike Bloesch to offensive coordinator, and Bloesch will now be assuming playcalling duties in 2021.
ATLANTA – The North Texas swimming and diving team overcame a week without practice due to the winter storm in the area to tie a program-best third place finish at the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships. The teams' 468 points was the third-most they've scored in a championship meet since joining Conference USA before the 2013-2014 season.
DENTON – First inning runs were all that North Texas needed as they downed Incarnate Word 5-1 and Stephen F. Austin 2-1 on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium. Both wins gave the Mean Green a perfect 5-0 first week at home.
North Texas and Tarleton were set to play on Sunday to close out the North Texas Invitational, but due to weather concerns the two teams have agreed to play a doubleheader when the Mean Green travel to Stephenville on April 21.
