Mean Green Hosts North Texas Classic

DENTON – Track and field hosts the annual North Texas Classic Saturday at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium among a stout contingent of competition.
"We are expecting a very competitive field," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "April has always proven to big month for qualifying marks and moving up on the performance lists. Big 12 teams will ramp up the competition in most events, and area teams SMU and UTA always provide good rivalry competition.
"There will also be some unattached professional athletes to spice up the action. With the Olympic Games later this summer, these athletes are looking to show signs of fitness of their preparation."
Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by running events at 1:20 p.m. Outside spectators will not be allowed, but the meet will be live streamed and live results will be posted. Links and information can be found HERE.
Participating teams include: UNT, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma Baptist, SMU, Abilene Christian, Tarleton and UTA.
"Having the advantage of racing at home on a familiar oval and track surface is always a positive," Sheffield said. "Our athletic department has provided an awesome venue for track and field in the North Texas region. It's nice to be able to brag and show off what we have here in Denton. We look to add more opportunities for track and field competitions in the future."
