"It's really been an up and down season, emotionally," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "Even though we competed indoors, it was a short return to competition. Just as we got into the outdoor, the weather started to play havoc with our outdoor meets. I feel like we had really had good training days/weeks. But the last few weeks were challenging. We have had some bright spots and are relying on our returners to carry our teams.
"I'm looking for a very competitive group this weekend. We go into the championships with a lot of big marks. If we can run as well here, we could see a bunch of podium finishes. Our goals for our team are for every individual to place higher in the final results than what they were seeded on the performance list. Conference USA is a great jump start to the championship season and preparation for the NCAA Championships. It will be a fun few weeks."
