DENTON – North Texas track and field wrapped up regular season competition at the Aggie Invitational at Texas A&M inside E.B. Cushing Stadium Saturday and the Last Chance Meet hosted by Abilene Christian at Elmer Gray Stadium Sunday.
The top North Texas finishers in College Station on Saturday included Jack Beaumont in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:05.51 for first place. Alec Esposito placed second in the 1500-meter run in 4:02.95, and Joseph Squire was third in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.05 seconds.
"We had a pretty good meet for the small group that participated," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "Competition was excellent preparation for getting us ready for the conference meet. Outstanding performance for Jack Beaumont in the steeplechase who was just shy of bettering his personal record and dominated the race for only his second steeple race this year. The conference race with Charlotte and Middle Tennessee will be exciting. Alec Esposito ran a competitive race around the oval for 1500 and looked pretty good battling back from early season injury."
The Mean Green throwers had a productive day in Abilene on Sunday as Jaleisa Shaffer improved upon her school record in shot put and the group set six personal records.
Shaffer finished second with her shot put mark of 15.60 meters. In men's discus, Karl Sralla (2nd place, 55.46 meters), Wardell Glaspie (4th, 52.70) and Kendal Maples (6th, 47.38) each registered career-best distances. Chris Samaniego was runner-up in the hammer throw with a personal record toss of 58.33 meters, and Glaspie again had a career mark of 50.63 for fifth place.
Bailey Ashmore finished first in pole vault with a season-best height of 3.91 meters.
