DENTON – Head coach Jalie Mitchell has added graduate transfer Amber Dixon from Louisiana Tech to the 2021-22 North Texas women's basketball team.
An all-around player, Dixon averaged 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals for the Lady Techsters in 2020-21. The Mansfield Summit graduate registered three double-doubles, scored in double figures a dozen times, and had five games of 10 or more rebounds last season.
"We feel very fortunate to add a seasoned vet like Amber to our team," Mitchell said. "She is someone we've had to game plan for on the opposing bench, and who competes at a high level every chance she gets. Her scoring and rebounding ability at the guard position help us immediately."
The Mean Green and LA Tech split last season's series as Dixon recorded 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the two meetings. Throughout her four years in Ruston, the 5-10 guard compiled 895 points, 394 rebounds and 334 assists.
"Amber is a team-first player who brings hunger, experience, leadership and a dedication to her craft that we cherish here in Denton. The best part about this opportunity for her is coming home to play in front of family and friends every night. It will mean the world for her to spend her final year closer to the people she loves," Mitchell said.
As a senior at Summit High School, Dixon was named the District 10-5A Offensive Player of the Year, TABC All-Region and TGCA All-State while leading the team to a 26-8 record.
