DENTON — Rhett Robinson recorded 14 kills and Sarah Haeussler added eight blocks as the North Texas volleyball team defeated Grambling State in straight sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-13) on Saturday.
The win gave the Mean Green a 2-1 record in the North Texas Invite.
"We closed out the tournament with two wins," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "It's good that we made the recovery, but there's still things we have to work on."
North Texas dominated the scoreboard, outscoring Grambling State 58-24 over the three sets and commanded the kills category by a 42-16 margin. Katie Butler led the team in assists with 21.
Despite the big win, Palileo says there's still room for improvement, particularly in the passing game.
"I think sometimes when it mattered, we were a little shaky on our passing. But that's something that's continued work. That's continuing to learn how and who you're passing next to. That's all part of the process, and I'm just glad that we came out and finished the rest of the weekend on a good note."
The match also featured the first collegiate appearance of freshman Addison Corley, who finished the game with seven kills.
"Offensively, she was good. She's a pretty aggressive player. I'm really excited for her, the way she came out."
The Mean Green (2-1) now prepare for the UTA Classic, a two day tournament on Sept. 3rd and 4th that will include Sam Houston State, Tulsa, and host UT-Arlington. The first game on Sept. 3rd against Sam Houston State gets underway at 4pm.
