NORMAL, IL — Rhett Robinson produced a match-high 20 kills, but it wasn't enough for North Texas volleyball as they fell in straight sets to Illinois (19-25, 21-25, 12-25) Saturday morning.
Katie Butler added 15 assists, while Henrianna Ibarra led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
The Mean Green (7-5) fell behind early in the first set and could never fully recover, eventually falling 25-19. North Texas shot out to a 8-0 lead to begin the second set, but Illinois (8-3) crawled their way back into it, outscoring the Mean Green 25-13 the rest of the way to claim the set.
The third and final frame was taken handily by the Illini in a 25-12 final.
Following yesterday's loss to Missouri, the loss to Illinois marks the first back to back losses of the season for the Mean Green, who have a high-water mark of three straight wins so far this year.
North Texas now turns their attention to conference play, which starts on Sept. 25 with a two game series against Rice. The first game gets underway at 6 p.m.
