DALLAS - After tying for third place this week at the Tulsa Dale McNamara Invitational in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, graduate student Audrey Tan was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, presented by Blenders Eyewear, the league announced on Wednesday.Â
The nod for Tan marks seven straight conference weekly awards for the program in weeks the team played, dating back to last season. It's the fourth for Tan in that stretch and the seventh of her career.
Tan's T3 finish led her team to a T4 finish in the event. She shot a 70-72-73 to finish at 1-under for the event - two shots back of the winner. Tan brought her season stroke average down to 72.11, which leads the team. She tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring, par-5 scoring and total birdies (11).
"I'm happy to see Audrey honored today," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "She didn't have her A-game in Tulsa but still finished in third and broke par on a very difficult golf course. Cedar Ridge has hosted an LPGA event in the past, and the ladies played in rain throughout the event. Audrey managed everything thrown at her with patience and poise."
The Mean Green will return to action Oct. 28-30, when they travel to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for the Battle at the Beach, which is hosted by TCU.
Fans can follow the program throughout the season on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and can check MeanGreenSports.com for tournament recaps and more.
