
Volleyball Lose to No. 23 WKU

DENTON, Texas – North Texas lost in four sets against No. 23 WKU on Friday at the North Texas Volleyball Center.
UNT (9-12, 3-3) put up a courageous fight in its final C-USA meeting versus the Hilltoppers (18-2, 6-0), 25-20, 18-25, 22-25, 12-25.
Treyaunna Rush tallied a team-high 14 kills for the Mean Green with Avery McCrillis and Aryn Johnson supporting with 12 each. McCrillis set season-high marks in kills and attacks adding five digs and a block.
Sh'Diamond Holly posted three total blocks, two solo, with five kills on 10 attacks for a .400 hitting percentage. Aleeyah Galdeira accumulated 13 digs, seven assists and a kill.
Set 1: The two teams traded points early before the Mean Green pieced together a 4-1 run to take an early 8-6 advantage. WKU would level the set when McCrillis collected consecutive kills to open a 11-3 run to give her team an eight-point lead at 19-11. The sides exchanged blows down the stretch but a kill down the line from Rush would end the set at 25-20. North Texas is the first C-USA team to win a set against WKU this season.
Set 2: UNT fell behind early in the second before a kill and a solo block from Holly sparked a run that would pull the deficit within two points at 11-13. The visitors retaliated before North Texas went on a three-point spell to keep the set within reach at 14-17. The Hilltoppers would go on to take the set 25-18 to even the match.
Set 3: Highlighted by combination blocks, first from Holly and McCrillis then Johnson and Taylor Litteken, the Mean Green took an early 4-2 edge in the third. WKU would answer but a service error and subsequent ace from Johnson opened the scoring in a 4-1 North Texas push to regain its two-point advantage. UNT fell behind but displayed its resilience with a 6-2 run to square the set at 18-18. The conference foes split the next four points with kills from McCrillis and Johnson to remain even at 20-20. WKU would win the set, 25-22.
Set 4: Rush would record six kills in the final frame but North Texas would drop the final frame 25-12.
Up Next: UNT are set to travel for a conference clash at UTSA on Sunday at 1 p.m. on CUSA.tv. The Mean Green are 14-21 all-time against the Roadrunners and 5-1 at home dating back to 2014.
