Noble scores 27 in the loss
DENTON, Texas (Nov. 25) – Senior Quincy Noble had her second straight game with at least 25 points, but North Texas dropped another narrow decision Friday night 60-59 against Louisiana in the opening game of the UNT Fall Feast inside the Super Pit.
After scoring 30 last time out against Wichita State, Noble once again went off with 27 points and went 9 of 16 from the floor as the Mean Green drop to 1-3 overall.
The 57 points in two games is the most for Noble in back-to-back games in her career as she raised her season average to 19.3 points per game.
The Ragin' Cajuns were able to grab the win late as they closed the game on a 6-0 run to hand UNT its third straight loss.
Louisiana was able to take advantage of UNT turnovers throughout the contest, holding a 15-2 edge in points off turnovers as the Mean Green turned the ball over 15 times compared to just six giveaways for UL.
The Mean Green came out of the gates hot to open the game. Trailing 6-4 early, Noble went on a 10-0 run by herself to give the Mean Green an eight-point edge.
UNT extended the lead to as many as 13 after freshman Ereauna Hardaway knocked down her first career 3-pointer to make the score 30-17.
UL responded with a 10-0 run of their own to cut the deficit back down to three and went to the break trailing 36-31.
Coming out of the locker room, UNT again swelled the lead after Breanna Davis hit a pair of free throws to make the score 45-35 with 2:44 left in the third quarter.
Trailing 53-44 with just under seven minutes left to play, Louisiana rattled off six straight points to climb back into the contest trailing 53-50.
After Tommisha Lampkin hit a layup and Noble knocked down a 3-pointer, UNT found themselves on top again 59-54 with 1:49 left to play.
The Ragin' Cajuns were not to be denied, however, as a pair of free throws and back-to-back layups down the stretch gave UL the 60-59 lead.
Quoting Coach Mitchell
"I'm disappointed in the loss. I thought we started out strong in the first quarter offensively, and kind of dwindled from there. They had five offensive rebounds at halftime and finished with 16, so there were a lot more that we needed to grab. It's unfortunate but it's a learning experience for all of us."
