
T&F: Runner-Up Finishes Highlight Day Two in Lubbock

Bullard, Samaniego and Esposito earn second-place finishes
DENTON, Texas – Three North Texas track & field student-athletes finished second in their respective events to lead the way Saturday on the final day of the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
Chris Samaniego had another strong day, finishing as the runner up in the men's shot put "B" section with a throw of 52-2 ½ (15.91m).
Alec Esposito had his second runner-up finish in as many meets, placing second in the men's mile with a personal-best time of 4:11.11. Logan Mitchell followed with a PR of his own (4:15.49) to finish in sixth place.
In the men's pole vault, Cody Bullard had his best performance of the season, clearing 16-7 ¼ (5.06m) to finish in second place.
Macayla Needham placed fifth in the women's shot put "B" section, recording a throw of 44-7 ½ (13.60m).
Samir Williams placed eighth in the men's 200 meters, running the best time of his career (21.85).
Arissa Thompson (25.35 – personal best), Kayla McDonald (25.36) and Alika Crawford (25.44 – personal best) all placed in the top 16 out of 45 in the women's 200 meters.
Next up for the Mean Green is the Conference USA Indoor Championships Feb. 19-20 in Birmingham, Ala.
