
Track & Field: Sivina Sets School Record in Lubbock

Freshman records UNT record 3,942-point score in women’s pentathlon
DENTON, Texas – Freshman Marta Sivina registered a UNT school-record point total of 3,942 in the women's pentathlon to highlight UNT track & field's performances this weekend at the Texas Tech Open & Multis in Lubbock, Texas.

Sivina was the runner-up in the 800 meters, placed sixth in the shot put, finished ninth in the high jump, and took 14th in both the 60-meter hurdles and long jump to complete the pentathlon. The Ogre, Latvia, native placed seventh overall with her 3,942 points.
"I'm very proud of Marta," Marshall said. "She fought all five events and got better as the competition went on. This is only the beginning for Marta. She will continue to get better as the year goes on."Â

Jaleisa Shaffer recorded an indoor personal-best mark of 51-1 (15.57m) to earn a third-place finish in the women's shot put "B" section.

Mason Garner put together another top-5 finish in the men's 3,000 meters, clocking a time of 8:43.12 to place fifth.

In the men's weight throw, Jake Parchman qualified for the final and registered a mark of 57-4.25 (17.48m) to place eighth.Â

Tyrell Johnson made the men's long jump final and recorded a personal-best mark of 23-5.25 (7.14m) on his final attempt to place eighth.Â

In the women's long jump, Glenquioa Hardy recorded a season-best mark of 18-10.5 (5.75m) to make the final and finish ninth.

Abdulsamad Sanusi qualified for the first round of the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 in the qualifying round, and went on to place 16th with a personal-best time of 8.17.

Next up for the Mean Green is the New Mexico Collegiate Classic next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3-4) in Albuquerque, N.M., home of the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships.
