Next up for the Mean Green is the Conference USA Indoor Championship meet.
DENTON, Texas – KeAyla Dove broke the UNT school record in the women's shot put for the third time in four weeks as the Mean Green completed their last pre-conference meet this weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
"I was happy by the way we came out and competed this weekend," head coach Doug Marshall said. "This was a tough week for us, and unfortunately we didn't get a lot of work in due to the weather, but the athletes stayed locked in and ready. These next two weeks will be extremely important going into conference, and we are excited to put some good work in."Â Â Â
Â
After recording three throws of just over 53 feet, Dove launched her second-to-last throw 57-3 (17.45m) to improve upon her previous school record of 56-1.25 (17.10m). Based on marks heading into this weekend, Dove's new best mark ranks No. 7 in the nation. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, finished as the runner-up at the Albuquerque Convention Center, the site of this season's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Â
"Key had a good day today," Marshall said. "I know that there was at least one throw she wished she could have back, but regardless she continues to improve each week. One of the best things I love about Key is she's an amazing person and leader."
Â
Madison Sloan placed 13th in the women's weight throw with a personal-best mark of 55-2.25 (16.82m), and Karlington Anunagba took 13th in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.35 as UNT competed against some of the best teams nationally in New Mexico.
Â
Next up for the Mean Green is the Conference USA Indoor Championship meet Feb. 18-19 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
