Football Falls at Navy, 27-24

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Ayo Adeyi ran for 125 yards on 14 carries for North Texas football, but the Mean Green fell just short at Navy, 27-24 Saturday afternoon.

Chandler Rogers completed 22 of 32 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown and added a 75-yard touchdown on the ground for UNT.

Alex Tecza had a 39-yard scoring run in the second quarter for Navy, and his 21-yarder stretched the Navy lead to 27-17 with 7:07 to play.

Ayo Adeyi broke loose on a 47-yard touchdown run that cut the North Texas deficit to a field goal with 5:23 remaining. The Mean Green got the ball back with just under two minutes left at their own 20 but couldn't pick up a first down.

-   Jordan Brown led all players in tackles on Saturday and finished with a single game career-high 12 tackles. His 12 tackles are also a single game Mean Green high for this year.
-   UNT had zero penalties on Saturday at Navy. It's the first time the Mean Green have had zero penalties in a game in over 23 years.
-   Quarterback Chandler Rogers threw one touchdown and had zero interceptions on Saturday at Navy. He now has thrown eight touchdowns on the year and just one interception. His touchdown-to-interception ratio is one of the best in the country.
-   With no interceptions thrown on Saturday on 32 pass attempts, Chandler Rogers has now thrown 126 consecutive passes without an interception. It's the longest such streak at UNT since Mason Fine had a 300-pass attempt streak without a interception in 2018.
-   Oscar Adaway III had a rushing touchdown on Saturday. It's his second rushing touchdown of the year and the 10th of his career.
-   After Saturday, North Texas is now only averaging four penalties per game. They entered Saturday averaging five per game, which ranked 34th in the nation for fewest per game.
-   Ethan Wesloski had a single game career-high eight tackles on Saturday.
-   Fatafehi Vailea had a single game career-high seven tackles on Saturday.
-   UNT newcomer Vic Alobwede had four tackles on Saturday at Navy. The UMass transfer entered the game with just three total tackles on the year. Saturday was the most tackles he's had in a game since transferring to the Mean Green.
-   Kaghen Roach had a single game career-high two tackles on Saturday.
-   Running back Ayo Adeyi finished Saturday with 125 rushing yards on 14 carries and one rushing touchdown. It's the third consecutive game Adeyi has rushed for over 100 yards and had a rushing touchdown. The last Mean Green running back to rush for over 100 yards in three straight games since DeAndre Torrey in 2018.
-   Reciever Roderic Burns had five catches at Navy. It's the most catches he's had in a conference game since he hauled in six catches on Oct. 22, 2022 at UTSA.
-   Receiver Ja'Mori Maclin had six catches on Saturday for 76 yards and one receiving touchdown. He now has six touchdowns this season through just five games. The last UNT player to accomplish that was Jaelon Darden in 2020 when he had 10 touchdown receptions through the first five games of that season.
-   North Texas was sacked seven times on Saturday at Navy. It marked the most sacks the Mean Green had taken in a game since Sept. 17, 2016 at Florida when Mason Fine was also sacked seven times by the Gators.
-   Navy punt returner Amin Hassan returned a punt for two yards on Saturday. It marked the first time this season a UNT opponent has returned a punt against the Mean Green.
-   With the loss at Navy on Saturday, UNT now trails the all-time series 0-2.
