Women’s Tennis Inks Shulzhenko to 2023 Class

New signee from Ukraine was inside the top-20 in U16 and U18 in Ukraine
DENTON, Texas (Feb. 24, 2023) – UNT women's tennis and head coach Sujay Lama have announced the signing of Stanislava Shulzhenko, also known as Stacy, to its 2023 signing class.
Shulzhenko comes to UNT ranked inside the top-20 in both the U16 and U18 rankings in her home country of Ukraine.
"Stacy is a strong athlete with a lot of power. She is capable of taking the racket off her opponents' hands." Lama said "We were very impressed with her poise and character for all that she has had to overcome moving to Texas from Ukraine a year ago. She is a terrific student with world class work ethic. We believe she will make an immediate impact for us both on and off the court and very excited to have join our mean green family."
Now a resident of Leander, Texas, Shulzhenko won the Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Texas Sectionals in Waco in 2022 and has been invited to play in the JTT Nationals in Florida later this year.
"UNT is a perfect place for further development," Shulzenko said. "It has amazing tennis and academic programs. I feel that a lot of new achievements are going to happen at UNT with Mean Green family!"
In Ukraine, Shulzhenko was the won the singles title in both the "Masters" and "Aizenshtadt Memorial" tournaments, both of which are category one tournaments in Europe.
She also reached the quarterfinal of the U16 Ukraine National Open and won the doubles title at the Ferrexpo Open.
Also a standout in the classroom, Shulzhenko was on the "All A" Honor Roll in in the fall semester of 2022 and holds multiple honor roll and certificates for high academic performance in Ukraine.
