Women’s Tennis Falls in C-USA Tournament Quarterfinal Against #3 Rice

Mean Green finish the season 11-12 overall
DENTON, Texas (April 21, 2023) – The 2022-23 UNT women's tennis season came to a close Friday as they fell 4-0 against #3 Rice in the C-USA Tournament Quarterfinal at Waranch Tennis Complex.
The Mean Green close the season with an 11-12 overall record after advancing to the quarterfinal of the conference tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 tournaments.
UNT held a 1-0 lead in singles at lines three and five in the contest, but Rice took home wins at lines one, two and four along with the doubles point to clinch the 4-0 win.
It was the final contest in the career for Kexuan Zhou who closes her time in Denton with 29 dual singles wins. Zhou nearly closed her career with a victory as she found herself up 7-6 (7-3), 3-3 in at line five before the match was called.
Gloria Alogo Piqueras was also leading her matchup at line three as she was on top 7-6 (7-3), 4-2.
As a team, UNT has now posted double-digit victories in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2015-17. The Mean Green also finished 8-3 at Waranch on the year.
This season, North Texas climbed as high as #69 in the ITA Poll and won seven straight home matches from Jan. 22-Feb. 19. It is the longest for UNT since the 2011-12 season when they won 11 consecutive matches at the Ranch en route to the Sun Belt Conference title.
