DENTON, Texas (April 26, 2023) – Lilly Schultz, one of the top amateur players in Germany, has signed her National Letter of Intent to be the latest member of the 2023 UNT women's tennis signing class, head Coach Sujay Lama announced Wednesday.
Schultz, a native of Bad Soden, Germany, is a member of the German Junior National Pool and from U13 to U16.
"Lilly has been very consistent with her message from the beginning of the recruiting process as to what she is looking for in a university and tennis program," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Our vision was aligned with hers and it was such a natural flow during each of the steps we went through. One of the biggest things for us was to know how loyal she was to her German club team for so many years as that characteristic is so important for this program. We believe Lilly is coming to a great foundation and, along with a great group of players already here, will help us get back to where we belong in college tennis as we move to the AAC. Her experience playing for a team and being amongst the best players in Germany will be a strength during her transition to college tennis and we cannot wait to help her achieve her goals both on and off the courts."
Ranked as the No. 88 player in the latest German National Women's Rankings, Schultz won the German National Junior Doubles title in both the U16 and U18 divisions.
Additionally, Schultz reached the doubles final of three separate ITF Junior Tournaments throughout her amateur career.
Schultz joins Stanislava Shulzhenko as the second member of the 2023 recruiting class for the Mean Green.
UNT is set to return seven of its eight players to its roster for the 2023-24 campaign in addition to the two new signees. The Mean Green finished the season 11-12 overall and were ranked as high as No. 69 in the ITA National rankings.
