SAN MARCOS, Texas — The UNT soccer team defeated Texas State 3-0 on the road Thursday night to remain perfect on the year.
It's North Texas' third shutout in as many matches and the third straight match they've won by the score of 3-0.
"I think this game really showed this team's determination to win these games on the road by scoring three big goals and putting away Texas state second half," said senior forward Jenna Sheely. "One of our goals every game is to shut teams out and I thought our defense did an excellent job keeping it zero in the back. So far I think our performance this season shows that we have have some big goal scorers up front and I'm excited to see us continue to build on these wins."
After a back and forth first half that saw no goals, the Mean Green (3-0) went on a flurry in the final 30 minutes.
Sheely got the goal scoring started for UNT as she converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, her second goal of the year. Then six minutes later sophomore Summer Brown blasted a shot past the Bobcats (2-1) keeper for her team-leading third goal of the season. Then in the 85th minute senior Devyn Flannery scored a top shelf banger from over 20 yards out for her second goal of the young season and to put her team up three goals.
With the win, North Texas improves to 10-0-1 all-time versus Texas State.
Next up for the Mean Green is a home match versus Texas A&M – Commerce on Sunday at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
